About our ethics

What we are trying to do

We are trying to be good people. It's as simple as that.

The studio has been built from the ground up with one thing in mind. How can we look back in years to come and say to ourselves, we tried.

So, how have we tried? The Internet is provided by Zen, who are the only ethical supplier in the UK rated by Which - https://www.zen.co.uk/our-story . Our electricity is provided by Scottish Gas's 100% green tariff. The studio is 100% LED lighting (which you'll have to agree is fantastic), and all water heaters are electric. There is no gas supply in the premises.

Our inkpots are made from a corn starch, so are carbon neutral, we are trialing using cellulose based cling film. The studios and reception area have dry mixed recycling bins, we've opted for digital consent forms to reduce the amount of paper, and when we have to print, we use eco printers, and where possible our tattoo stencils are printed with Electrum ECO ink directly onto stencil paper, rather than the traditional stencil paper and it's single use plastic cover sheet.

Green washing

We aren't perfect, and we aren't going to try and say we are. Tattooing uses a lot of single use disposable plastics, from Cartridges to nitrile gloves. Anything which gets put into the clinical waste bin is disposed of by incineration by our clinical waste providers, but what we can do is use carbon neutral products where we can, recycle where we can, and try do to the right thing.

The ethics around the artists

Artists make the studio. Without them, there is no studio. Witch of the West is owned by artists and is run for the artists. All artists are treated equally and all decisions taken in the studio are based on input from the artists.
